Description
Custom Aluminum Bluewater Cutter — Proven Ocean Cruiser Built in the USA by Carija Boatworks of Mystic, Connecticut, this custom aluminum cutter combines the proven lines of the legendary 1972 Swan 48 with modern systems and the uncompromising strength of welded aluminum construction. The Story This is a purpose-built bluewater cruiser designed for couples who want to go anywhere safely and comfortably. Carija Boatworks — custom builders specializing in aluminum designs based in Mystic, CT — constructed the hull using Alcoa 5086 H32 aluminum throughout, creating a strong, corrosion-resistant platform capable of over 12 knots at sea. At 21 tons with one-piece hull and deck construction, she's built to handle whatever the ocean delivers. The Swan 48 design heritage provides the perfect balance of performance and seaworthiness that made the original Swan 48 a blue ocean legend. Construction & Performance Hull: Alcoa 5086 H32 aluminum construction by Carija Boatworks ensures exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and complete corrosion resistance — crucial advantages for serious offshore sailing. Unlike steel (which rusts) or fiberglass (which can blister and delaminate), aluminum construction means decades of worry-free service with minimal maintenance. Performance: Capable of sustained 12+ knot passages under power, giving you the ability to maintain schedule regardless of wind conditions or make weather windows with confidence. Accommodation & Comfort Three-cabin layout provides genuine privacy and guest space. The full galley features a reliable 3-burner propane stove for serious meal preparation at sea. Complete head facilities ensure comfort during extended passages. This isn't a marina boat — it's designed for weeks at anchor in remote locations. Sail Plan & Performance Cutter rig with complete 5-sail SOBSTAD inventory gives you options for every wind condition. From light-air reaching to heavy-weather headsails, you have the right sail for the conditions. Lewmar SST winches and blocks throughout provide the mechanical advantage needed for short-handed sailing. Power & Self-Sufficiency Main propulsion: Yanmar 4JH3E diesel with 1,900 hours — the workhorse engine trusted by serious cruisers worldwide. Known for reliability and parts availability globally. Electrical independence: 400-watt solar array with Victron charge control keeps batteries topped off at anchor. Honda 2kW generator provides backup power for extended cloudy periods or high-demand situations. Fuel system: 60-gallon integral fuel tanks with Keenan fuel polishing system ensure clean fuel delivery. 20-gallon day tank provides system redundancy. Range and fuel management designed for long passages between fuel stops. Water: 100-gallon integral freshwater capacity for extended anchoring without resupply. Navigation & Communication Complete Raymarine electronics suite: chartplotter, autopilot, depth, wind, radar, and Class A AIS for collision avoidance in shipping lanes. SEA SSB radio for long-range weather and communication. Monitor SS windvane provides reliable self-steering without electrical consumption. Starlink internet keeps you connected anywhere with satellite coverage. Ground Tackle & Safety Dual anchor setup with 60# Rocna primary and 60# CQR backup — two different anchor types for different bottom conditions. 150' chain plus 150' of 3/4" nylon rode provides proper scope for secure holding in deep anchorages. Creature Comforts Seafrost refrigeration system for fresh food storage on long passages. Eight Lewmar deck hatches provide natural ventilation below. 2023 Zodiac 11' RIB with 2023 20HP Tohatsu outboard — essentially brand new tender setup for exploring shallow waters and shore access. Why This Boat Works This is a thoughtfully evolved design where every system serves the goal of safe, comfortable long-range cruising. The Carija Boatworks aluminum construction eliminates the maintenance headaches of fiberglass blisters or wood rot while providing exceptional durability for beaching, docking, or minor impacts that would damage other hull materials. The Swan 48 hull design has proven itself in every ocean. The systems are marine-proven brands chosen for reliability and global service support. Built in New England's maritime heart by craftsmen who understand serious sailing — ready for your next adventure, whether that's the Caribbean, Pacific crossing, or circumnavigation.
